NOAH’S LULLABY
The first (and maybe only) “intricate” guitar piece I ever wrote was this one and it definitely came off as a lullaby type of tune. Noah was days (maybe weeks) old and love was abound for that little guy. The first grandson for Heather and I, the first nephew to Hannah and certainly the first born son to Hailey and Justin, who were still trying to figure it all out. So it might not be coincidental that I was able to come up with this little lullaby, that I have since named Noah’s Lullaby. I have not been able to do anything close to this since in terms of a finger picking tune. To say I was inspired by that little guy, would not be an understatement. I also wanted to find a clever way to get that little achy newborn scratchy voice, on record. Nailed it. And bonus, I have Hailey’s voice forever etched in time talking to her precious first born. Feel like I knocked this one out of the park and you’re welcome I didn’t try to sing over this little lullaby. Why ruin a good thing.
For Emmett
Having done a tune for Noah, I felt it was only the right thing to do, to carry on the tradition when Emmett was on the way. Sometimes, I sit down when Heather and everyone is well outside of earshot and try to get in that creative space to come up with something new and clever. This was not one of those times. This one came so natural to me because the “where are you, little guy?” line was genuine. I could not wait to meet this little dude. I do like the “Time to see the sky” line, if I do say so myself. This is just a sweet and simple lullaby to our little Emmett and the gentleness of the tune matches the incredibly gentle soul in him. What a blessing these boys have been up to this point in my life.
Then comes our precious Everly….
Everly
Writing the words for Everly’s tune was not hard. Another lullaby of course, but very happy with lines like “Everly’s her name and she’ll remain pretty as the flame burns in the nightime” or “pretty as the bells chime”. I recorded two songs for her and one was just a sweet little lullaby. The other is a little longer, but more of a somber tone. I really like the guitar work in it though. There are 3 layers of guitar and musically I am proud of it. The laughter at the end is not hers, however so it is not as authentic either (might have to do a Remaster soon). But, I am proud of both versions for different reasons. Sidenote: I need to come up with a song that will match her energy and spirit that she is today. I mean, damn, that girl is going to rule the world if it suits her. Might have to do some electric guitar work….
Bonus Everly Track (Little Girl)
This was an early attempt at writing one for Everly before she was born. A little jazzy tune with some keyboards, which I am not good at usually, but again, these kids inspire things in me. Never panned out to anything, but who knows, could have been a nice mellow little hit. hehehaha.
