Songs to Play at my Funeral

During this time where Mike and I were hanging out quite a bit, he shared this song with me that he had recorded and I loved everything about it. It was a rock song with great lyrics and to that point it was the most complete song I had heard him record. The song was called Dead Rock Boy. Great title. Very rock n roll. I am not sure who had the idea to make a video of it, but we had some fun one afternoon pretending to know how to produce a music video. We talked Hailey into being the star, but I don’t believe we had to try too hard. I think she liked the idea of being a rock star for a day (or maybe I liked the idea of making her a rock star for the day? Who knows.). The technique we used was taking a series of still photos and stitching them together to simulate motion. We had an absolute blast trying to figure out how to create the crashing of the amplifiers when Hailey kicks them down (toward the end of the video) as we had to move them one frame at a time closer and closer to the floor. I think we used books that we could remove one at a time for each shot. Hailey looks to be around 10 years old here, which would make this sometime around 2002 time frame. Crazy to think it is over 20 years old.

This was a fun one to do and another good example of artistic expression in so many forms. If I am being honest, I think it was a self-conscious way of trying to involve my family in this musical journey I was embarking on as well. Happy to have this video to chronicle this period in my life.
